Slovak? Russian?

Slovak ends in 'e' and Russian in 'y', neither of which I'd think would be pronounced like that... Upper Sorbian ends in /i/ but doesn't have the 'n' in the middle. So I don't know!

Neither.
Russian doesn't have unstressed [o] sounds, they are reduced to [ɐ].

No, in Ukrainian this word doesn't have -n- in the middle.

Edited: when posting the transcription I forgot to indicate the palatalization of t͡s. Fixed now.

There isn't an unstressed [o] in your word...

Is [t͡s ʲ] a phoneme in that language, or is it just an allophone of /t͡s /?

I'm guessing Upper Sorbian.

(agreed, there isn't, don't know why I wrote that. struck that out.)

No, it isn't Upper Sorbian. :p

And it isn't an allophone, they can be in the same environment.

Bulgarian? On second thoughts, probably not. I have no idea.

Hah, thanks for sharing this! A good potential for puns among Slavs, like ponos. :D

PiotrR wrote:That much is obvious now :P

West Polesian? That transitional dialect between Belarussian and Ukrainian.

Almost. It was simply Surzhyk, used almost all across the country (ножниці instead of correct ножиці under Russian influence), and since in Ukrainian Polissia it's pretty common, I'll count your answer as correct. :P

Well, it must be a High German dialect. It's obviously descended from *apô, with the High German sound change. Is it Swiss German?

Is it some language or creole in Cameroon that borrowed it from German?
