TAC 2015 - Ashrak

Postby Ashrak » 2015-01-25, 18:31

Well my TAC track record hasn't been exactly good during the last 3 years, so I'll try something different this year. I will update with my progress every week on Sunday until 8 PM CET/CEST, if I won't update or on't make any progress (or don't announce it in advance in case of vacations) I'll donate 5€ for each missed week to charity :-). So in that If I don't make progress something good will be of it :-). Without further ado, this years languages are:

 (ja)
This has been on my bucket list for way too long. Now a friend of mine tried to convince to learn with her, didn't need to think too long about it and I said yes. So far I've been able to learn ひらがな and カタカナ
Starting level: A0, goal: A2 (it's maybe far fetched, but let's see).
Materials: anime, and some Czech - Japanese language book

 (es)
I'm just starting to tackle past tenses in Spanish. My main resource is Duolingo and my spanish friend. Let's see how fast and how far can I get.
Starting level: A1(ish), goal: B1
Materials: Nuevo Ven 1,2 (goes up to B1), Duolingo

 (ir)
I always wanted to learn a gaelic language and duolingo just started irish course, so why not irish? :-)
Starting level: A0, goal: None, as far as I can get, but it doesn't have priority
Materials: Duolingo
native: (cs)
almost native(C2 level): (en) (de)
understand natively, but not speak much: (sk)
just started: (eu) (es)
interested in: (sv) (he) (ja) (grc)

- Learned about です in the meaning "to be" (something)
- Learned the following Kanji on wanikani:
     一 二 三 七 八 九 十 山 口 工 人 大 力 川 入 女 下 上
native: (cs)
almost native(C2 level): (en) (de)
understand natively, but not speak much: (sk)
just started: (eu) (es)

    1) Talking about myself in "third person" (using my name rather than the word I) - Considered childish
    2) Neutral form: 私 (pronounced: わたし)
    3) Male humble form: 僕 (pronounced: ぼく), considered less polited than number 2
    4) Very formal form: こちら
  • Learned the following Kanji: 才 出 了 丸 木 日 々 六 (totaling 26 Kanji now)

almost native(C2 level): (en) (de)

You've learned all numbers but 六? Strange way of learning them :P .

Yeah well I go with how WaniKani feeds them to me, and there were the numbers broken to two levels so I learned like 一 二 三 七 八 九 十 and on second level 四 五 六 and that even wasn't in ascending order :(

And for example I was learned 千 but not the kanji for ひゃく their ordering doesn't really make sense, but I find their take on Heisig cool and will stick with them :-)

Yeah, I've seen approaches to learning characters (in Chinese and Japanese) where they don't teach you the numerals in order. I guess that's because the etymology of some of the numerals is more intuitive than that of the others or something.
