It's been too long since I've posted here. So we'll have two verses this time! Verse 7:
Gloss

καθαρίζει - 3 sing. active indicative of καθαπίζω
πάσης - fem. gen. sing. of πᾶςTranslation
But if we live [or: walk] in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of his son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.Notes
-I did initially get confused as to the initial subject up to the comma, but after referencing the NRSV, I got it sorted out. I originally had, "But if he is in the light, thus we walk . . . " Which made absolutely no sense.
-τὸ αἷμα Ἰησοῦ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ is pulling double duty as a fun little phrase, and the subject of the verb καθαρίζει.Verse 8:
Gloss
|we have||ourselves||we are led astray||and||[the] truth|
If we say that we do not have sin, we led ourselves astray and the truth is not in us.
More to come next week.
