Faré que aquest tema sigui "sticky", doncs
Per cert, una petita correcció: hauries de dir "on pugui (i pugueu)", o bé "on poder" :)

celebrian23 wrote:1.aprenem el català o aprenem català?

Les dues opcions són correctes, però potser jo m'inclino més a fer servir la segona.

Potser podeu anomenar aquest tema "Preguntas sobre el català / Questions about Catalan", per què tothom pot veure de què es tracta.

I'm confused on when to use jo and when to use mi. I mean I know jo is I but when jo means me I get confused.

Like in the sentence: Ell va morir amb jo/mi?

I don't know the grammatical word for this (stressed pronoun? indirect object? uh no ho sé)

Please help :D

Oh my... I haven't even checked the forum in a while  I hope this is still useful to you...

It should be: Ell va morir amb mi.
I guess the name in English should be "object pronoun"... no idea actually

Reis is also a Turkish word, the same meaning as "king".

I got an mp3 by Opció K-95, the title of the track was reported as "Reis del alkohol". I knew there should be c instead of k, but I didn't know what the correct way of writing the presposition and the article was.

Deuria ser "els reis de l'alcohol". A més a més, la paraula "alcohol" no pot ser escrita amb "k". I no sé què és... ho sent (sento)! :)

It should be "els reis de l'alcohol". Besides, the word "alcohol" couldn't be written with "k". And I don't know what it is... I'm sorry!

I just realized that Guillem put the correct way of writting it. I'm so stupid, I'm sorry again :P

M'he adonat ara que Guillem ja va posar la forma correcta d'escriure-ho. Sóc molt estúpid, ho sent (sento) altra vegada (altre cop)

For example for the determinat form, plural, masculí I have available the form els, -los and ‘ls.

“els” I use in the normal way. –los when it is imperatiu and ‘ls??? What for is this ‘ls? When do I use it?

Mmmm, it depends. You use "els" when it goes before the verb "els doneu, els mireu". "-los" is used after the verb in some situations (imperatives and infinitives)when the verb ends in consonant or u "vaig mirar-los, mireu-los!". "'ls" is used like "-los" but when the verb ends in a, e, i, o, as in "mira'ls".

I hope it helps you with it. Don't hesistate and ask again if you didn't understand me :)

Actually it's an arabic word meaning "head" رائس.It's the same root as hebrew rosh... ראש you'll find it in the name of the jewish new year festival: rosh ha-shanah= the head (beginning of the year)

In some dialects or languages in Indonesia, res means "head". But it's considered vulgar. :?

I have a cultural question.

If I went to Catalonia and catalaned, would the natives be impressed even if I had to ask them to switch to spanish? :P

with 'catalaned' you mean 'spoke in Catalan'? :D

I'd say yes, they would be impressed, Catalans (like people with not widespread languages) don't usually expect people from outside the catalan-speaking area to learn their language :D and if you had to ask them to switch it wouldn't be a big deal anyway.

That's what I think, may be wrong

 I like the way you use "catalaned"

I don't know if they would be that impressed, they would probably just say nothing, and reply in Spanish. :?

They probably wouldn't notice that you catalaned :P because the Catalans are so used to switching languages, they don't even give it a thought anymore.
And they probably would reply in Spanish because, well, they almost automatically speak Spanish to people about whom they are not sure if s/he catalaned.

Well that made me think of sommething else.

How important is Spanish in Catalonia outside of Barcelona? What about in Andorra or the balearic islands? And is Balearic and Andorran Catalan very different from the standard?

I'm getting back into studying catalan so I'll have more language questions soon ;)
