Used in:
- Counting. Eg: 사과 두 개 (2 apples), 책 다섯 권 (5 books)
- Time (hours). Eg: 오후 일곱 시 (7PM), 아침 여덟 시 (8AM)
- Age (when used with 살). Eg: 스물 한 살 (Age 21), 열 여섯 살 (Age 16)

일 이 삼...
Used in everything else including:
- Time (minute). Eg: 일곱 시 삼십 분 (7.35)
- Age (when used with 세). Eg: 십오 세 (Age 15)
- Anything more than 100, 백 천 만 are used.
- Dates. Eg: 이천십삼 년 오 월 삼 일 (2013, May, 3)
- Telephone numbers. Eg: 구칠팔오에 이삼사오 (9785-2345)
- Bus numbers.
- Addresses.
