Question about Ktiv Male

Postby maxval » 2011-03-07, 12:36

In which cases kamatz katan and chataf kamatz is marked with vav in Ktiv Male? I noticed that almost never. Is there any rule for this?

Example: צוהרים - can it be written and is it usually written as צוהוריים or not? I found it in a book as צוהריים so only the kamatz katan was marked with vav, and the chataf kamatz was not marked.

So my questions are:
- when the kamatz katan is marked with vav? in which cases?
- is the chataf kamatz never marked with vav?

The current standard prescribes that kamatz katan and chataf kamatz are marked with vav in Ktiv Male only when the vowel is derived from a kholam. For example:
חָמְרִי
is written
חומרי
because it is derived from
חֹמֶר
When the kamatz katan and chataf kamatz is the original vowel, it is not marked with a vav:
צהריים
