학 by Hwang Sun-won, translated into English as Cranes by Peter H. Lee. It's a really nice short story. :) It's also the one I like to use to show just how shitty Google Translate can be.

The Cage by Ruth Minsky Sender. Had to read for school. It was good, but my essay dissing the main character was boss.

Tough--so many options. I think the last thing that really put me in a funk (rather than just bumming me out for a little while) was an article on colorectal cancer.

The last thing you read containing an infographic.

Lol, nice, I have National Geographic, too.
The last thing you read that made you laugh really hard.

A conversation I came up with and wrote years and years ago between three Muslim Malayalees in Thailand (I used this as an excuse to practice both Malayalam and Thai :P). One of them is an interpreter for the other two, but at some point when the other two need him, he is nowhere to be seen. He finally shows up after a while. They ask him, "Where did you go?" and he says, "I went to shit." There were various reasons why I found this hilarious. It's a little hard to explain.

The last thing you read that was set in a hilly or mountainous area.

I think I'd say "...that was set in a real war."

Malakal by E. M. Kovoor is set during and after World War II. As far as I can remember, the war does not directly affect any of the characters, but British colonialism certainly does. (The last thing I read where the entire story took place during a war was my grandfather's diary, but I never read the whole thing, just bits and pieces basically, so that probably doesn't count. I'm trying to remember the last thing I read in its entirety where the entire story took place during a war. Maybe a cartoon based on the Bhagavad Gita lol).

The last thing you read in which trees were mentioned.

Babel No More by Michael Erard, oddly enough. It's about people I can relate to very well (hyperpolyglots or whatever you want to call them), but the fact that it's all about an outsider's fascination looking into that community of people makes it pretty boring eventually. Besides, I was reading that and a pretty funny Malayalam novel called Pithaamahan in tandem, so I decided to drop it and devote all my reading time to the Malayalam novel.

The last tragedy or tragic story that you read.

We-elll, I don't remember whether my eyes teared up or anything, but I was pretty surprised by how sad the ending of Malakal by E. M. Kovoor was.

The lyrics to a song I posted in Veps not too long ago? Nah, probably it was part of a story in Gujarati called "Reversal" in a magazine called Gujarati Darpan (unless maybe you count the beginning of an Urdu literary magazine called Jasoosi Digest). The last thing I read in its entirety in a language I don't speak fluently was probably a story in Tamil called "திருமங்கை மன்னன்" (pronounced something like [t̪ɪrʊməŋgej mənnə̃]) from a collection of kids' stories called கதை மலர் (pronounced something like [kəd̪ej mələr]).

The last thing you read and enjoyed.

I can't be sure if it really is the last thing I read, but possibly The Translator's Invisibility by Lawrence Venuti.

The last piece of poetry you read.

Ní féidir liom bheith cinnte go bhfuil sé an rud deireanach ar léigh mé i ndáiríre, ach b'fhéidir gurbh é The Translator's Invisibility ("Dofheictheacht an Aistritheora") le Lawrence Venuti.

An dán deireanach ar léigh tú.
