Farlig midsommar (Moominsummer Madness), by Tove Jansson, one of my favourite authors.
I'm concentrating on reading Scandinavian books from the university library now, because I won't be able to borrow books from it after September, when I'll (hopefully) have graduated.

The last thing you read in which the protagonist wasn't human.

I think that would be Die Verwandlung by Franz Kafka, translated into English as The Metamorphosis by Stanley Corngold. I was supposed to read the translation, but it was in this high school English class where we had to read a bunch of translated works, and I hated having to read all of them in translation when I could at least conceivably attempt to read the original, so I found it online and tried to read that, too. It made it a lot easier to go through.

The last thing you read in which one of the characters was human but believed (by at least one other character) not to be.

As I recall, he's one of the few who actually gets the translation of ungeheures Ungeziefer correct instead of calling Samsa an "insect".

In the explanatory notes after the translated text, he also spends almost two pages discussing that term and explaining why it's tricky to translate and what it connotes.

With all due respect to Marcel Courthiade, that would probably be a paper of his. (I don't think it's been published anywhere, but I'm forgetting). Oh God, what was it called...? Ah, here it is: "The India-Anatolia Rromani route: an attempt in consistent narrative reconstruction."

The last thing you read where some of the characters were fighting or arguing in some way.

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut probably, it has time travelling and aliens, though I'm not sure if you can call this book sci-fi, it's rather mainstream fiction.

The last book you read where the main character wanted to commit suicide but couldn't do that.

Crime and punishment, most likely.

The last thing you read with a major scene set during a snowstorm.

Into the Abyss by Carol Shaben. It's about four people surviving a plane crash in Canada. There's a lot of snowstorming in it.

The last thing you read where a non-fable story about animals is told from an animal's perspective (not 1984...!).

Anyone's free to pick another one if that one's too specific or too uncommon.
