Зачем бы вы все не пойдти вперед? Я буду с вами через минут.

It's not perfectly word-to-word translated, but I rather do what I can than cheat with an online translator! =)

*well, without context it's not understood what 'parties' they're talking about. In authentic Russian translation, it's "восстания" = rebellions. I don't know any ancient Greek to check out the original, so I'll leave it like that. Very good, apart from small mistakes!

PEMbl wrote:Зачем Почему бы вы вам всем не пойдти вперед начать? Я буду присоединюсь к вам через минуту.

Remi, I guess "go ahead" means "begin" or "proceed" in English. I don't know, could it be used literally? So I changed the translation.
Besides, "why" generally translates to "почему". "Зачем" means "what for", "for what reason".
Hope this helps!

Then we both understood that sentence differently :P I Imagined people walking and one stopping to answer an SMS, tells them to keep going ahead and that he'll join them later. In this case Почему would be asking for too big of an explanation. Hence why I used зачем и впереди :D

Perhaps I wasn't clear. You see, зачем and почему are different words that are not interchangeable generally. See examples:
"Зачем вы это делаете?" means "What are you doing this for?" i.e. what is being asked is the goal of them doing it.
"Почему вы это делаете?" means "What it the reason you are doing this?" so it's the reason, the motivation that concerns one who asks.
However, people often answer the question they weren't asked, like:
"-- Почему ты открыл окно? -- Мне жарко". (Why did you open the window? -- Because it's hot here). Okay.
"-- Зачем ты открыл окно?" (What did you open the window for?). The logical answer would be "чтобы стало прохладнее" (in order that it gets cooler) but people would normally answer again "мне жарко".

So, even with your understanding of Babelfish's sentence, you should've used "почему".

I hope I didn't confuse matters even more for you. :D

Зачем is "what for", for what reason.
Почему is a generic "why".

You definitely can't say "for what reason don't you go ahead", so you should use "почему".

Thank you so much both of you, I think I actually inversed the definitions of both. I thought зачем was more the generic why, so I'm glad you can correct me on that. =)

Perhaps we can return to the purpose of this thread, that is translations :) I'll repeat the last sentence.

Так как молодая женщина не была вполне одетой, Госпожа Брукс знала, что она не выйдет вновь на время.

I don't know if copying sentences from books is a good idea for this game. It kinda calls for comparing with an official translation, which I think is quite unnecessary.

Я не знаю, хорошая ли идея копировать предложения из книг для этой игры. Это вроде как вынуждает сравнивать с официальным переводом, а я думаю, что это совсем не нужно.

Oops, sorry, I didn't know this rule. I was just lazy (see my nickname) to make up sentences for myself

Ой, простите, я не знал об этом правило.Я только был ленивый (посмотрите на своего имя) чтобы создать приговоров сам.

Basically, you can just have a normal conversation and have fun getting people to try and translate it without changing its meaning!

Где-нибудь, мили отсюда, кто-нибудь наслаждается мягче зимой.

Old English somehow looks so cool to me with it's æ and þ (occasionally ð), I wish Middle English hadn't given up on these :(

В милях у нас не измеряют расстояние, поэтому я бы не стал переводить дословно.

Для меня староанглийский выглядит так классно с его æ и þ (иногда ð), я бы хотел, чтобы среднеанглийский не отказывался от них.

Давным-давно жил один князь, который хотел жениться на княгине.

The prince, however, was too ugly and poor, so the king did not allow the young couple to marry.

Но князь был слишком некрасив и беден, так что король не позволял молодой паре пожениться.

This proved to be an unwise decision.
