Yes, I think they serve different situations - the first one (sorry, no Greek font on this computer for me) is used outside the verb context, like e.g. 'I need money', while the second one is for actions. But a Greek speaker would know better.

Kαλησπέρα.
Νομίζω πώς η έκφραση "χρειάζομαι να...." είναι λάθος.Το σωστό είναι "χρειάζεται να ...(επισκεφτώ τον Κώστα).

Επίσης το "πρέπει να.." σημαίνει obligation and it is the same as "must " in English.

I need to visit Kostas
I must visit kostas

I came across with this forum when i was searching for Greek grammar topics. To my surprize many foreign Greek learners here speak(and write) better than the native citizens in my country. :D

What do you imagine the difference between "need" and "must" to be?

I was wondering about δε and γαρ, as in οικει δε 'ο Δικαιοπολισ ουκ εν ταισ Αθηναισ αλλα εν τοισ αγροισ.
Also, γαρ in: απεραντοσ γαρ εστιν 'ο πονοσ.
Athenaze says δε is for and and but and γαρ is for postpositive for, I just have trouble translating them into English to make complete sense.

Just to add, δέ just indicates some kind of contrast or change of focus, and it depends on how strong that contrast is to see whether the English equivalent is "and" or "but". A sentence like "I said ... and he replied ..." would (or could) have had δέ in Greek. It seems strange at first because there's no such word in English, but you get used to it quickly enough through exposure.

Like dimos translation shows, γάρ means "for" in the sense of "because".

What do you imagine the difference between "need" and "must" to be?

Simply ''need to'' means something that I should do because it's the right or proper thing to do most of the time or a few times what I am forced to do because I have no choice.

''Must to'' is something I am obligated to do usually against my will for someone or something or simply I am obligated to do and I SHOULD do it because it's the right thing to do. I can theoretically avoid for example kiss the feet of a medieval king, but I am surrounded by guards with longswords and I have few possibilities of escaping. I can avoid my mom sending me to school for example by running away, but simply it goes against my willpower which struggles within itself because if I leave my mother, she is
going to get angry and break my pc, my Gameboy, my football team's uniform, my favourite basketball sneakers and so on. So I am somewhat ''forced'' to do it so and I SHOULD do it too.
