Δεν ήξερα αν ήθελε ο lishaoxuan καλή μετάφραση ή μόνο κάτι για να τον βοηθήσει να καταλάβει τα ελληνικά. Αλλά τώρα που το ξαναβλέπω, έκανα το λάθος με το πρώτο "έψαχνα" και το μετάφρασα "search" και με το copy-and-paste υπάρχει παντου . Τα άλλα, εντάξει, αλλά με το

Εδώ ή "would come" ή και μόνο "came" -- το "were coming" δεν πάει και τόσο καλά με το "every night."

Εχεις δίκιο μάλλον όμως το used to κολλάει καλλίτερα καθώς ο στίχος κάνει λόγο για συνήθεια.

Hello Greek speakers,

I've got a short problem. Is it correct to write:
Τρώγε & πίνε κάτι καθημερινά or better κάθε μέρα ? Is there a difference between them?

You want κάθε μέρα. Καθημερινός is an adjective that means "daily," like a "daily newspaper."

I don't know any Greek, but have to interview a German-Greek bilingual for a study project. I might have more questions, but for now what I need to know is the word for "birthday". I checked an online dictionary and came up with γενέθλια. Is this correct?
(I need it for the question whether different associations come up for "Geburtstag" and the Greek word for it. So if there's a different word for the celebration stuff than for the date itself that would also be good to know.)
Thanks a lot in advance! (Please reply quickly, I'm great at procrastinating and now I have to finish the thing quite quickly.)

As far as I know γενέθλια is exactly 'birthday'.
You can look up words and phrases in a good online dictionary: http://www.in.gr/dictionary/lookup.asp?Word=

Good luck!

Γενέθλια is right, and it doesn't refer only to the date itself but can refer to the other aspects of the day.

If you want to refer to the date of birth then ημερομηνία γέννησης(imerominia genisis)would be more appropriate, it's more formal, but γενέθλια is just fine when you're referring to the celebration.

Thanks guys. :)
I figured maybe it would be handy to ask the whole question in Greek.
So how could I say:

"What is the first thing you think of when you read the word "birthday"?

Thanks again.

You could say

Τι σκέφτεσαι πρώτα όταν διαβάζεις τη λέξη «γενέθλια»;

But I would think there's a better way to phrase it, so if you're not in a rush I'd wait for some more answers.

"Ποιο είναι το πρώτο πράγμα που σου έρχεται στο μυαλό όταν διαβάζεις τη λέξη γενέθλια" is the best way :)

So there's the answer:
Τα δικά μου γενέθλια.

Does it mean something like "of my own birthday"?

Thanks!

Kalispera!

Just a little help please.
Could you tell me the Greek version of the warning from trains or underground
"Do not lean against the doors!" ?

Looking forward for reliable replies :dunno:

I believe it might be Μη κλίνετε στην πόρτα but it's been so long since I've been in Greece I've forgotten
