Although a bit better would be "Alates 2006. aastast olen seal käinud umbes kümme korda.", also "2006. aastast saati olen seal umbes kümme korda käinud.".
sinna (to there) - seal (there) - sealt (from there)
alates (preposition) and saati/saadik (postposition) both mean "since (some time)" and both require the main word to be in elative case (-st)

Aga esimene lause jääb küll minu jaoks mõistatuseks. :? - But the first sentence remains a mystery for me. Maybe you can provide its English translation.

"I must be a glutton for punishment"..... I find learning your language sooo difficult but I soldier on, nevertheless. An English expression denoting determination. Maybe it doesn't tranalate too well. Kas sa saad aru?

Hmm :hmm: I have never heard this sentence before, but I guess in Estonian it could be something like:
"Ju/küllap ma olen siis enesepiinaja." ~ I guess I'm a self-torturer then
or "Ju/küllap mulle meeldib siis ennast piinata." ~ I guess I like to torture myself then

Või nagu eestlased ütlevad: "Inimene õpib (seni), kuni elab." (one learns as long as (s)he lives).

See on arvatavasti lühenenud teisend ütlusest: "Inimene õpib seni, kuni elab ja elab seni, kuni ta õpib." (one learns as long as (s)he lives and lives as long as (s)he lears)

eriti just ülipikana hääldatuna

Appi palun! Minu sõnastikkudel ei ole "hääldatu" so it's an overlong ? for me :?

Also I thought that the genitve case (ülipika) was used to qualify nouns in the essive case (hääldatuna) :?

Algernon wrote:Appi palun! Minu sõnastikes ei ole "hääldatu" so it's an overlong ? for me :?
  • hääldama / hääldada = to pronunciate
  • hääldatud = pronunciated (past participle)
also acts like an adjective (but does not declinate): hääldatud sõna (pronunciated word)
  • hääldatu = the one that is / has been pronunciated; the pronunciated one
    (noun - declinates as usual)

Algernon wrote:Also I thought that the genitve case (ülipika) was used to qualify nouns in the essive case (hääldatuna) :?
Usually yes, but in this context that ülipikk(overlong) doesn't act as a regular adjective:
ülipikana hääldama = to pronunciate as overlong - so this ülipikk stays in the essive case, even if the verb (hääldama, which requires it) turns into a noun.

But I am not completely sure if this is also correct in standard Estonian, so it may be better to say instead:
ülipikalt hääldama = to pronunciate "overlongly"

You can also say "hääldades" instead of "hääldatuna":
eriti just ülipikalt hääldades ~ especially when pronunciating overlong(ly)
or
eriti just ülipikana hääldades ~ especially when pronunciating as overlong

praegu: "Ma olen praegu kodus." - ainus kindel asi on vaid käesolev hetk, ma ei pruukinud varem kodus olla ning mõne hekte pärast ei ole ma võib-olla enam jälle kodus.

Usually yes, but not always. For example, it is used in many expressions, where you can't replace it with "praegu".
Also, the meaning of "nüüd"(now) is a bit wider, while "praegu" is used more for right now or this moment.
One more difference that I have noticed:
nüüd: "Ma olen nüüd kodus."(I am at home now) - the change has taken place compared to the relative past: I wasn't at home before, but now I already am.
praegu: "Ma olen praegu kodus."(I am at home at this moment) - the only certain thing is this exact moment, before I may not have been at home yet and after this moment I may not be here any more.
