Another song translation

Postby MadThrasher » 2012-06-05, 13:31

There's this song, about which you might have already heard. It has lyrics written in Russian, Latvian, German, Dutch, Swedish and Lithuanian. I was able to find the translation of all those lyrics except for the Baltic ones, but I have already got the translation of the Latvian lyrics on the forum's approppriate section, so only the Lithuanian is missing.

Could anyone please give me a translation of these lyrics? They might be archaic or a bit hard to translate because of the genre, though.

Bekraštės girios užaugino mus, vėjo žirgais į laisvę…
Duona juoda kaip žemė, tirštas putoja midus…
Žemynos sakalas saulėje saugo mūsų vaikus…
Velinas vienaakis moko mus plieną pabust…
Ąžuoliniai piliakalniai žvelgia į tolius…
Kiek akys mato – žemės mūsų senolių…

Thanks in advance!

Velinas vienaakis moko mus plieną pabust…

An one-eyed devil is teaching us to wake up into steel..

In this case Velinas is pagan god, not devil, just like Žemyna.
On-eyed Velinas is teaching our steel to wake up.
There more likely mus = mūsų, some liberty acceptable in poetry. Velinas was considered the one that brought metalworking to people.
