Re: MGA AWIT [Tagalog Songs]

Hey guys,

Sorry I have not been as active as I would have wanted to be. Abalang-abala ako nasa eskuwelahan ngayon, at wala akong masiyadong oras para sa magpost dito. However, here's a remake to microchip's song, Anak. Also, I posted the music video of the original song with Freddie Aguilar singing in it. Feel free to compare the two.

REMAKE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HReSXNt6ns
Artist: Sarah Geronimo
Song: Anak
Translation: Child

ORIGINAL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-2lPzH7Do
Artist: Freddie Aguilar
Song: Anak
Translation: Child

I really enjoy the lyrics too microchip! I found a Tagalog-English translation/comparison here if you want to see it: http://tagaloglang.com/Basic-Tagalog/So ... uilar.html

Someone sent me a message and I can't make heads or tails of it. I think it's Tagalog/Filipino based on what the translators online detect, but they don't make much sense to me. I suspect it may be slang since the translator at translate.google.com is usually pretty good, but doesn't work well with slang most times. I've also never used it for translating this language either.

King ina mo dami mong alam

I don't know "king" but since "ina mo" comes right after, this must be slang and vulgar, similar to F-you. "Dami mong alam" means "you know too much" in an annoyed tone or something.

yaan ay "haring ina" o pinagmulan mo daming alam mo.

MISC/MUSI: Mga pagbabago/Ang awit

Postby Riptide » 2013-05-19, 14:56

Well this is just a mess. I guess in the meantime, when you post something, in the subject area, just post one of these codes plus your topic title:

TLTN: Translation Request
MUSI: Music
TLSN: Tagalog Lessons
MISC: Miscellaneous

In short, where it says "Re: Tagalog" or something that starts with Re:, unless you're commenting on someone else's post, write something like "TLTN: Where is my book? to Tagalog" if you want that translated to Tagalog (which, by the way, is Nasaan ang libro ko?).

In terms of music, here's a good song (kind of slow) that I just heard this morning.

Artist: TJ Monterde
Song: Ikaw at Ako
Translation: You and I

I started with the online course in seasite.niu.edu (7 years ago wooh!).
Now I am sticking to Basic Tagalog for Foreigners and Non-Tagalogs.
I am planning to run quickly through the course of the American Militaries, available online or through one Advanced Reader at some future point.

I constantly get tempted by that course. :P

I take it that book is good? I have been tempted to buy that book, as well as the other book by Tuttle Publishing (Elementary Tagalog). I'm hoping they come out with an intermediate book a well (like they did with Korean and Vietnamese).

I used this too in the beginning! I just wish they would update/add the website.

The only problem I have with that book is that it's copyright date is 1993. I looked through the book using Google books, and I found some words that aren't really used anymore (or are rarely used, I haven't heard of them) with modern Filipino. So I guess it all comes down whether you want to learn Tagalog or Modern Filipino (or both, which is what I would choose). And if they haven't come out with an updated version for 20 years, the author probably won't publish an intermediate book. :(

I'm not sure if you're talking about Basic Tagalog for Foreigners and Non-Tagalogs or Elementary Tagalog. :hmm:
I looked at the publication dates for all the books by Tuttle on Amazon and it seems like they are all 2007 or newer. Maybe they updated the book you're talking about?

Yes, Basic... do have a newer edition (which I have in non-book format), which differs from the one I have on paper (from 1993, if I'm not mistaken).

Yup, they did. I double checked with Tuttle's own website. And I checked to see when Elementary Tagalog out, and it just came out (2012/13), so a "Continuing" book could potentially be in the works.

I looked at the publication dates for all the books by Tuttle on Amazon and it seems like they are all 2007 or newer. Maybe they updated the book you're talking about?

Can you send me a link to the newer book? I probably just couldn't find it.

Linuluto ng sumusunod sa akin [ang pagkain] kapag walang taon sa bahay niya.

Isn't it niluluto, not linuluto? Also, taon = year and tao = person. 8-)

Paminsan-minsan magluluto ako kung walang tao sa aking bahay, pero karaniwan ko tamarinin.

Salamat po :)
Ano ang kahulugan ng "tamarinin"?

Opo, at ayaw ko mag-aral na magmaneho na :) Di ko ibig ito.

Ang sumusunod sa akin ay magsasabi sa amin ano ang gusto niyang ginagawa kapag mayroon siya ng pera
