Verb stress patterns

Postby language learner » 2013-08-16, 9:02

Is there any way to predict where the stress will fall on the finite forms of the verb based on the infinitive only? Or the stress pattern has to be learnt in addition to the infinitive?

I have seen the following stress patterns so far:
E=stress on the ending, R = stress on the root
1.R R
2.R R
3.R R

1.E E
2.E E
3.E E

1.E R
2.R R
3.R R
Are there any more?

It has to be learnt for every verb except for those with some specific suffixes.
