"Slavic" conlang (unnamed)

Postby Fox Saint-Just » 2015-01-24, 9:48

As I wrote in another topic, I have started working on a conlang based on Slavic languages. It will be heavily influenced by other languages like Greek, Armenian, Georgian, Persian and Turkish. Geographically, I have imagined it as the language of a fictious civilization that grew in the region around the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.

It's still an early draft, so any suggestion is welcome.

Just wondering, is it based off Proto-Slavic, or just based off modern Slavic languages (I assume mostly Russian)?

I'm trying to build it from Proto-Slavic, but I'm also adding roots from other language families. I'll give some examples once I have collected and sorted out a good number of them.

Roza is rose, dom is house, but what the heck is telos?

Anyway, are you still working on it?

I assume telos is body? And roza could be "flower", too; and for dom I'd say it's "home" (pure speculation, though).

In which language does "telos" or anything similar mean "body"?

The only similar word I can think of is the Romanian teluric = of the ground.
And the Greek sto telos = in the end.

тѣло is a common Slavic word. Hovewer, the whole system looks kinda strange to me. Now it depends if the author is making a Slavic-looking conlang, or a conlang which is Slavic. I think quotation marks imply that it's the former that is the case so it's okay.

Well, "body" is teló in Slovene, and when declined, the stem gets an additional -s, eg. genitive singular is telésa.

Exactly. I should have specified it in the post, sorry.

The project is developing towards the former case. The conlang will be influenced by Slavic languages but will not be strictly slavic.
