No na to, že sa učíš ešte len rok, ti to ide celkom dobre. Slovenčina je ťažký jazyk pre Angličanov. Mimochodom, "priateľ" v slovenčine znamená "boyfriend". Ak chceš povedať len "friend (male)", povie sa "kamarát". Ale neviem, ktoré si naozaj myslel ;) Každopádne, vitaj!

Considering you've only been studying Slovak for a year now, you speak pretty well. Slovak is a difficult language for the English. By the way, "priateľ" in Slovak means "boyfriend". If you mean "a male friend" then we say "kamarát". But I don't know, which one you really meant ;) Either way, welcome!

D'akujem Riks.

A, nemozem povedat' tam 'nazdar'?

Mimochodom - moj oblubene nove slovo. :D Znie cool.

"Cvičiť" means to do some physical activity, for example, if you are going in for sports and you are going to training, you can say "Idem cvičiť". Likewise, if you learn to play the violin, it can be said you practise playing the violin.
"Precvičovať" means improving yourself in something, you have learnt. When learning languages, you learn also some vocabulary, which is necessary to practise in order you can not forget it.

Môžeš, ale tento pozdrav sa používa medzi ľuďmi, ktorí sa dobre poznajú.

It can be said, but this greeting is used among good friends.
__________
Čo sa týka poslednej otázky, musím nad tým porozmýšľať kedy to ide. Každopádne veta sa dá začať aj spojkou.
As to last question, I have to think about it when it works. Anyway a sentence can begin with conjuction.

Väčšinou nie. Obzvlášť nie spojkou "a". Tá má spájať vety. Myslím, že tak by to malo fungovať aj v angličtine. :)

A čo sa týka 'nazdar' je to trochu zvláštny pozdrav, niečo ako anglické 'sup'.

Usually, you can't. Especially not with the conjunction "and". It's supposed to connect sentences together. I'm pretty sure it's the same in English though. :)

And as far as "nazdar" goes, it's kind of an awkward expression, kind of like saying 'sup' in English. What you said was: "I just thought I'd stop by to say 'sup'" - that's what makes it awkward. But you can use it, especially in Bratislava.

To fakt, hej. :P =>

We do not have something equal to english " I meaned ***** " - so we do not write that we " som znamenal ****** ", but rather " myslel som ***** " (in this case " myslel som čau "), if you want to correct your previous typing. But in case of word-by-word translation it would by almost correct

and, of course, you made a nice mistake, because you wrote "tea" (čaj) - which is a good idea now :-)

No poviem to takto: "Čau" je používané takmer každým, počuješ to od dospelých, detí, chalanov, dievčat atď... Naproti tomu, 'nazdar' je väčšinou používané chlapmi, je to veľmi hovorové a takmer žiadne dievča/žena ti nepovie 'nazdar'. Okrem toho, niektorí ľudia toto slovo nemajú veľmi radi.

Well, let me put it this way: "Čau" is used by almost everyone, children, guys, girls etc... As opposed to "nazdar", which is mostly used by (straight) guys, it's very colloquial and you will hardly see any girl/woman use it. Besides, some people might not like the word "nazdar".

Je ťažká hlavne preto, źe je úplne iná ako angličtina. Má proste veľa prvkov, ktoré napríklad zabraňujú efektívnemu využitiu google-translator;)

It is difficult mainly because it is completely different than English. It has too many elements that will just make it difficult to use "google translator" effectively. ;) But you're doing well, really.

V'daka. :-) Mozem robit' lepsie.

It does have too many elements. But it's very logical once you know the rules... at least standard Slovak is pretty easy to grasp. Dialect Slovak...phew. That's hard to get. I think the hardest thing is hearing the prepositions and pronouns, because when spoken they're just rolled into the accompanying word. And quite often they double as intensifiers and prefixes to change words meanings...

It's fun. Haha. :partyhat:
