A synonym for the word "prostý" is also the word "jednoduchý" therefore the most used English expression to translate this word would probably be the word "simple". "Prostý" is usually used in situations when for example someone leads a simple life without luxus or it is used to describe a "prostý" human, who usualy is not very educated. From my experience this word isn´t used in normal speech that much, it usually can be found in books or in the press.

My experience is, that 'prostý' is often used as a synonym for the word 'hlúpy'. (stupid)
Gløgt er gestsins eyga. (Føroyskt orðafelli)
Wise is the stranger's eye. (Faroese saying)
L'occhio dell'ospite è acuto. (Proverbio faroico)
